HISTORIC CENTRE OF FORUA
In the central Elexalde neighbourhood of Forua, visitors can discover 2000 years of history through the church of San Martin of Tours and the Roman settlement of Forua.
The Roman footprint of Forua
The Roman settlement of Forua (occupied between the 1st and 4th centuries AD), located on the hill of Elexalde, provides an insight into the integration of these lands into Rome and the way of life of the areas inhabitants at that time.
It is the most extensive excavated and consolidated site in Eastern Cantabria, one of the largest, best preserved, and unique in Bizkaia.
Church of San Martin of Tours
The majestic church of San Martin of Tours bears evidence that this space was occupied from the High Imperial Roman Period, from the 1st century AD to the present day. Finds in the form of necropolises used in different periods have been uncovered in the subsoil of the church.
